FAMILY PEER SUPPORTER

WHO IS A FAMILY PEER SUPPORTER?

The family peer supporter is an integral member of the Foundry Kelowna care team and utilizes their own living/lived experience of supporting a youth or young adult who has experienced mental health or substance use challenges. The family peer supporter assists in the delivery of Foundry Kelowna operations and offers family and caregivers assistance with connection to services, education and resource information, while providing individualized peer-based practical, emotional and social supports. Delivering services in alignment with Foundry’s Service Model, the family peer supporter promotes holistic family health and well-being by fostering the development of respectful, collaborative relationships with family members/caregivers, youth and service providers.

This position offers 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

WHAT DOES A FAMILY PEER SUPPORTER DO?

  • Provides a safe, welcoming and supportive culture for families and caregivers receiving services at Foundry Kelowna;
  • Provides direct on-site services to families and caregivers by providing support, guidance and mentorship, in the areas of information, navigation, education, resources and skill development, to support and engage families as expert partners in their co-developed wellness goals;
  • Models hope and shares living/lived experiences and lessons learned to support families and caregivers in achieving individual and family health and wellness goals;
  • Facilitates meaningful engagement (defined in Foundry’s youth and family engagement guide) and participation of families in focus groups, surveys, research, evaluation and other opportunities related to peer support to further build capacity and leadership
  • Works collaboratively as an advocate and liaison between caregiver/family member, youth, Foundry Kelowna staff and community partners;
  • Supports parents and caregivers completion of questionnaires, applications, referral forms and other administrative tasks as necessary;
  • Collaborates with youth peer support workers at Foundry Kelowna to optimize the youth, young adult and caregiver/family experience as it relates to the delivery of services;
  • Facilitates peer support and educational groups to promote skill development and engagement, as well as foster peer-peer connection and networking opportunities;
  • Works collaboratively with Foundry Kelowna staff and community partners to optimize relationships between families, caregivers, and service providers;
  • Supports the development of the Foundry peer support network on a provincial level including but not limited to, research, evaluation and quality improvement activities and participation on select provincial working groups;
  • Participates as a team member, attending team meetings, case conferences, conference calls and other organizational activities;
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation including: statistics, progress reports, care plans, and referrals;
  • Other duties as assigned.

YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Direct experience as a parent or caregiver supporting a youth or young adult with mental health and/or substance use challenges and service navigation in local community;
  • Completion or eligible for completion of Foundry family peer support training. Previous peer support experience and training an asset.
  • Deliver services with high degree of self-awareness, demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, and work within personal and role specific limits and boundaries;
  • Capacity to use one’s living/lived experience to promote positive connections with families and caregivers at differing levels of engagement;
  • Strong relationship and rapport building skills;
  • Assertive communication skills with ability to respect others’ perspective;
  • Empathic, caring approach, with strong active listening skills;
  • Ability to understand and follow a strength-based approach for sharing challenges and co-creating solutions;
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and comfortable with public speaking;
  • Broad knowledge of community resources and supports;
  • Knowledge and respect of the diversity of the BC population;
  • Demonstrated time management skills, accountability and reliability;
  • Excellent planning, organizational and coordination skills with ability to multi-task;
  • Strong written and verbal communication;
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and willingness to work flexible hours;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an inter-disciplinary team;
  • Basic computer skills; experience with Microsoft office, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Proof of Vaccination from COVID-19

PEER SUPPORT LEAD

WHO IS A PEER SUPPORT LEAD WITH CMHA KELOWNA?

CMHA Kelowna is a community and regional leader in peer support service delivery and development of policy, practice, training and tools. Building from this strong foundation, the Peer Lead is responsible for the delivery of Peer Support Programming, Peer & Practice School and the ongoing growth and enhancement of peer empowerment, engagement and support within CMHA Kelowna & district. The Peer Lead promotes the principles of peer support which guide all CMHA Kelowna Wellness Programs:

    • Hope and recovery

This role offers 35 hours per week, including occasional evening and weekend courses

WHAT IS A PEER SUPPORT LEAD RESPONSIBLE FOR?

  • Work closely with the Wellness Development Centre and the Discovery College Lead to support the integration of peer support within the Wellness Development Centre and Discovery College
  • Seek opportunities to strengthen, grow and enhance peer support, empowerment and engagement within CMHA Kelowna (e.g. Foundry, supportive housing programs, homelessness services) and within the Central Okanagan district
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Peer & Practice School:
    • Promote & Recruit 3 targeted streams:
      • individuals with lived experience
      • loved ones: parent/family/friend
      • helping professionals
    • Arrange training schedule, space, registration
    • Deliver training and book guest facilitators
    • Assess readiness/fit to continue as Peer Supporter volunteers
    • Facilitate orientation of new volunteers
    • Coordinate practicum opportunities
    • Organize graduation
  • Co-production and creation of new courses
  • Facilitate courses within Discovery College, and other community settings needing mental health education and training
  • Enhance volunteer Peer Supporter personal empowerment and growth, leadership skills, positive interpersonal relationships and communication through activities, workshops, ongoing communication and other strategic approaches
  • Stay informed and maintain contact with key community supports and services for Peer Supporter volunteers and peers to ensure quality care on an as needed basis
  • Promote peer support, the Peer Support Program and Peer & Practice School within the community and market for participant involvement
  • Stay attuned to peer support advancements, research, policy, innovation and promising practices locally, provincially, nationally and globally
  • Support with other education initiatives including internal training, creation of Learning Moments, and the What Really Works Podcast
  • Assist with Wellness Development activities
  • Comfortable working online and in-person
  • Measure and report program performance of Peer & Practice School and Peer Support Program and ensure continual improvement
    • Collect and record data (quantitative and qualitative)
    • Prepare a variety of reports including quarterly, biannual, annual and impact reports

YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma/Degree in Human/Social Services plus two (2) years’ recent related experience working with individuals with mental health and substance use issues/or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery and willingness to share their own personal recovery journey
  • Knowledge of peer-run programs and understanding of the value of peer/client involvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and to recognize and respond appropriately to the needs of peers and consumers
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and co-lead training sessions
  • Skilled in facilitation and public speaking
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Ability to problem-solve and take initiative
  • Ability to deal with others effectively and resolve conflict
  • Lived/living experience with mental illness/substance use and recovery
  • Highly compassionate and excellent attention to detail
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

IT Technician

WHO IS AN IT TECHNICIAN?

The IT Technician at CMHA Kelowna is an integral part our operations team and the go to person for all things technical. You will be exposed to all aspects of the organizations technology and use your expertise to resolve hardware, software and network problems. This is a perfect position for an outgoing, customer service focused technical support professional that enjoys training and has a desire to support the organizations IT goals.

This is a full-time position offering 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain phone and computer systems and networks to optimize performance
  • Hardware and Software installations – setting up phones, computers and peripheral devices
  • Identify and provide IT support, training, orientation and guidance to all organization users
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems
  • Develop and implement file storage and security protocols
  • Identify phone, computer and network equipment needs
  • Support ergonomic designs of workspaces to provide efficient and healthy work environments
  • Develop and maintain records of hardware and software inventory, manage software licensing and follow proper procedures for disposal of electronic assets
  • Assist in the development of electronic systems to support asset management
  • Assist with maintaining information security
  • Maintain accurate records/logs of repairs and maintenance schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

REQUIREMENTS OF AN IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Proven working experience as an IT Technician or relevant position
  • Demonstrated diagnostic and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of audiences
  • Demonstrates great customer service skills, listens carefully and exercises patience
  • Outstanding attention to detail, organizational and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop options and/or recommendations to resolve issues
  • Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
  • Proven discretion and confidentiality of personal information
  • Sufficient physical strength and ability to lift and handle computer equipment and a valid BC driver’s license
  • Certification as IT Technician will be an advantage
  • Must provide proof of full vaccination
