Guitars are more than just the sum of their parts. Guitars have sentimental value; they can represent a moment in time, conjure emotions, and bring forth memories from the past. Guitars can also be instruments for recovery.
If you have a guitar that’s gathering dust, you have the opportunity to make an impact in the lives of others.
A small music group has started in the Wellness Development Centre at the Kelowna branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. This group helps to foster a sense of community and purpose, and learning how to play an instrument can be a very empowering experience. Led by participants for participants, the group has grown over the past few months and there are now more people who want to learn to play guitar than there are guitars available.
Our amazing volunteer instructor has been bringing his guitars for people to use, but he simply does not have enough for everyone.
Just think: the same guitar that your child learned to play on, or carried the tune for songs around a campfire, could continue its legacy in the hands of someone working on a fresh start.
We will need at least six guitars to meet the current demand. If you’d like to donate a guitar, please call 250-861-3644 or email Shari Slattery at [email protected]
