The health and well-being of British Columbians has been significantly impacted with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the overdose crisis. It is crucial that there is a commitment from government when it comes to mental health. Our province, our communities, cannot recover if we do not fund the necessary services that support the mental health of those who need it and prevent further crises from taking place.
The health, well-being and economic security of British Columbians have been deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now more than ever before, our new government will have a moral imperative to prioritize mental health and well-being alongside economic recovery. Neither can be achieved if the other is left behind.

Toronto, ON and Vancouver, BC (June 25, 2020) – The pandemic has caused intense stress and disruption for all people in Canada, and is causing pronounced mental health concerns, including suicidal thoughts and feelings, in various subgroups of the population, including parents, those with existing mental illness or mental health issues, Indigenous people and those with a disability or who identify as LGBTQ+. This is according to a new nationwide survey on the mental health impacts of COVID-19, released today by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) in partnership with UBC researchers.
