Programs that foster wellness and increase resiliency in youth has had a significant boost at Foundry Kelowna. Coast Capital has awarded the centre a $20,000 Community Investment Grant for Youth.
The funding is supporting mental health programs at Foundry Kelowna with a focus on creating opportunities for social connection, peer support, skill development in group settings and building self-esteem and positive social skills – all of which are key elements of early intervention and prevention in young people.
Active youth involvement is a key priority for both organizations. Foundry Kelowna works with a Youth Advisory Committee that has been involved in determining everything from the centre’s location to identifying the types of programming that is needed; and the grant itself – dubbed For Youth, By Youth is adjudicated by members of the Coast Capital Youth Get It™ Community Councils.
