At CMHA Kelowna we are committed to building homes, building lives and building community – so no one feels alone.
That’s why we are proud to launch Discovery College, a new initiative that will help anyone in our community experience growth and connection so they can discover what is possible for them.
What exactly is it?
Simply put, it’s courses that anyone can take – but it’s so much more than that!
Discovery College is our approach to helping people expand their knowledge and abilities to improve their well-being and better manage their own life’s challenges like stress and anxiety.
Each course is developed and delivered in collaboration with people who have knowledge and personal experience in each topic area. This means, at Discovery College you will experience an empowering learning environment where genuine people share knowledge and practical tools.
Our free and drop in courses are open to anyone and everyone.
How was it developed?
We can’t take all the credit.
The model, widely known as Recovery College, is popping up all over the world. At CMHA Kelowna we strive to always be learning so we are adopting some of what has worked elsewhere while collaborating with our colleagues at CMHA Calgary to continually create, design and re-design courses that are a good fit for Kelowna.
We work with real people who have real experiences so we can offer exactly what people want and need from Discovery College.
What courses are available now?
Discovery College was launched in January 2020, after CMHA Kelowna ran pilot courses in the summer/fall of 2019. The following courses are currently being offered (click for more info):
