Human Resources & Employee Experience Manager

WHO IS A HUMAN RESOURCES & EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE MANAGER?

The Human Resources & Employee Experience Manager at CMHA Kelowna is an integral part our Leadership team and the go-to person for all things employee related.  You are responsible for planning, developing, designing and implementing a range of programs and processes related to recruitment, retention and total rewards for all employees and volunteers at CMHA Kelowna. The incumbent will leverage their knowledge of strategic workforce planning to elevate our recruitment and sourcing initiatives to attract talent, create an exceptional candidate experience, and build a sustainable talent pipeline.

WHAT DOES A HUMAN RESOURCES & EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE MANAGER DO?

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with CMHA Kelowna’s Mission, Vision and Values that promote equity, diversity and inclusivity.
  • Bridge management and employee relations by addressing any issue that requires guidance and coaching
  • Oversee and participate in the recruitment and selection process for all positions in the organization
  • Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation and retention of our amazing team
  • Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, policy and procedures across the organization
  • Nurture a positive working environment for the HR team and be a dynamic culture creator
  • Oversee and manage performance improvement processes
  • Maintain and advance our compensation program so that it reflects an organization grounded in supporting the psychological health and safety of our teams.
  • Ensure legal compliance/Employment Standards/Human Rights throughout human resource management
  • Identify employee training, learning and development needs and source, design and implement engaging solutions

REQUIREMENTS OF AN IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Proven working experience as a HR Manager or other leadership role that has direct Human Resources experience.
  • People oriented, culture focused and critical thinker
  • Experience working with Human Resources Information Systems and databases (Preferably Payworks HRIS)
  • Ability to think laterally and strategically. Demonstrated ability to architect an HR strategy, as a component of our overall organizational strategies.
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation and relationship building skills
  • Provide leadership in enhancing and implementing our Occupational Health and Safety protocols, policies, procedures and practices.
  • Provide continuous COVID-19 information and direction for each of our locations, maintaining a strict level of compliance
  • In-depth knowledge of BC labour and human rights laws and HR best practices
  • Demonstrated experience in non-profit/community social service workplaces is an asset
  • Experience with dynamic work environments, including organizations with multiple worksites and hybrid-remote models
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient in MS Office suite and Google Docs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational and communication skills, and ability to operate independently

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

You have:

  • Degree in Human Resources or related field
  • CPHR designation, or active candidate preferred
  • Minimum 3 years proven experience as a Manager / Leader
  • Knowledge and experience in the practical implementation of the most current WorkSafeBC and Occupational Health & Safety standards, reporting and claims
  • Experience in a hybrid work environment

Weekend Supportive Housing Lead

WHO IS A WEEKEND SUPPORTIVE HOUSING LEAD?

The weekend Supportive Housing Lead will work as an integral part of the CMHA Kelowna Supportive Housing Leadership structure.  This person will work in collaboration with existing Supportive Housing leadership to ensure that all 5 Supportive Housing sites (Willowbridge, Heath House, Gordon Place, Ellis Place, McCurdy Place) are provided with the necessary oversight, and ensure all housing sites are safely and sufficiently staffed.  The successful candidate will be the main go to person for Supportive Housing during weekend hours, and ensure seamless oversight, guidance, and support for staff at all of our housing sites.

This is a permanent full-time role, offering 37.5 hours per week, Thursday to Monday, generally 3:00pm-11:00pm.

WHAT DOES THE WEEKEND SUPPORTIVE HOUSING LEAD DO? 

  • Supervise staff by performing duties such as assigning work, providing feedback and evaluation, determining training requirements, orienting new staff, and maintaining timekeeping and attendance records as well as resolve staffing issues;
  • Responsible to ensure that each site has full staffing levels, including taking the lead on scheduling, including call-outs and staff re-allocation;
  • Liaises with all Supportive Housing Team Leads to ensure continuity and consistency in program operations;
  • Provide on-call support to each housing site when faced with emergent and urgent crisis situations;
  • Provide a physical presence at all housing sites, providing support, guidance and direction to program staff;
  • In the case of low staffing levels, actively participate in service delivery, based on need and circumstance;
  • Participate in case planning with residents and/or healthcare providers to meet resident needs, including problem solving in areas such as accessing community resources.
  • Advocates for participants by problem solving in areas such as financial assistance, accessing community resources, and obtaining volunteer placements. Provides crisis intervention in situations such as medical emergencies and client disputes;
  • Reviews and maintains related documentation;
  • Acts as a liaison with community agencies, and promotes and encourages community involvement in the program;
  • Acts as a representative for CMHA Supportive Housing with community members impacted by or commenting on the operations of the housing site, ensuring respectful and productive relationships and communication.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree or Diploma in Social Services or related field;
  • A minimum of 2 years recent, related experience in management;
  • Experience with Supportive Housing;
  • Ability to work with marginalized populations;
  • Leadership skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others;
  • Ability to operate related equipment;
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize;
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with participants;
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in participants;
  • Ability to supervise;
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems;
  • Ability to assist participants with money management;
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position;
  • Class V BC Driver’s License;
  • Certificates in CPR and First Aid;
  • Naloxone trained
  • Other duties as required.

Youth Housing Worker – Weekends

WHO IS A YOUTH HOUSING WORKER?

The Youth Housing Worker is responsible for supporting 18 young people who will be housed on a Youth specific floor at a market housing building site on Benvoulin. The residents will be those who were homeless or at risk of homelessness. The Youth Housing Worker works with a team to build individualized care plans that include; health referral and advocacy, social connection, life skills development, employment and education support. The Youth Housing Worker provides support to clients to address quality of life issues that affect their health, wellness and connection with the community they live in and aims to achieve housing stability for each young person.

This role is a part-time, on-site, housing based case management that offers 15 hours per week, working Saturday and Sunday, 2:30pm-10:30pm within our Benvoulin Youth Housing program.

WHAT DOES A YOUTH HOUSING WORKER DO?

  • Foster and maintain excellent collaborative relationships with housing, health and social service professionals addressing clients’ outstanding needs;
  • Create care plans to focus on housing stability;
  • Connect clients to income supports to which they are entitled: Income Assistance, Persons With Disability (PWD), GST rebates, income tax rebates, advocacy with income assistance personnel;
  • Liaise with community agencies and businesses to fulfill program needs and ensure a smooth flow of information and resources;
  • Provide appropriate information and referrals to appropriate agencies;
  • Provide an ethical, efficient and therapeutic approach to dealing with crisis intervention in a timely manner;
  • Provide safe care to the client in potentially dangerous situations;
  • Prepare referral letters and offer referral information to client;
  • Maintain files, case notes and daily statistics;
  • Maintain timely statistics regarding contacts and activities;
  • Meet regularly with Team Lead and Support Workers;
  • Update information as required to assist other agencies;
  • Transport clients when appropriate;
  • Other duties as required.

YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a Social Services or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
  • Experience working specifically with youth and the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).
  • Demonstrated skill in supporting youth experiencing homelessness and a proven track record in providing quality, evidence-based services;
  • Excellent computer literacy skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Knowledge of health and social service systems with understanding of the complexity of the income assistance system;
  • Demonstrated experience working with people experiencing homelessness, including those with serious mental illness and/or addictions and complex health and social issues;
  • Demonstrated experience providing mediation/conflict resolution;
  • Demonstrated negotiation/communication skills;
  • An ability to manage a flexible work schedule;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle for business purposes and acquire liability insurance;
  • Current first aid certification.
