Mayor Colin Basran Proclaims May 1-7 Mental Health Week in Kelowna

CMHA Kelowna urges the community to Get Loud about mental health.

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Kelowna kicks off CMHA’s 66th Annual Mental Health Week (May 1-7) by issuing a call to action to our community to speak up and GET LOUD for better access to the mental health services individuals and families need.

“Mental Health Week is important because it gets us talking about something that affects each and every one of us,” says Mayor Colin Basran.  “This week puts an exclamation mark on the need to Get Loud about mental health in our community”.

1 in 7 young people in our community struggle with mental health issues. 75% of mental illness starts in childhood. The sad fact is that less than a 30% of those who need help actually get it. “CMHA Kelowna believes in a mentally healthy community – one where people aren’t afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. A community where the right help is available at the right time. International Women’s Day Fundraiser Raises $5,500 for Foundry Kelowna

On #InternationalWomensDay, 5 chefs, 4 winemakers and 40 guests came together to support CMHA Kelowna at the #BeBoldForChange Fundraising Dinner at Quails’ Gate. A total of $5,500 was raised for our Nutrition programs at CMHA and Foundry Kelowna! It was all about women supporting women and food making connections. A huge thank you to Aman Dosanj from The Paisley Notebook for organizing this event and the rest of the team involved in making this happen. We are so grateful for this collaborative support you have shown for us! #GetLoud

CMHA Kelowna a Finalist for City’s Civic & Community Awards

We’ve been chosen as a finalist for Volunteer Organization of the Year in the City of Kelowna’s 42nd annual Civic & Community Awards! This is a huge honour and we want to thank our volunteers for their support, hard work, and dedication. Congratulations to all of the other award nominees!

The City of Kelowna’s annual award ceremony recognizes volunteers, artists, athletes and business leaders that made significant contributions to the city. The award recipients from each category will be revealed at the Civic & Community Awards Gala on Wednesday, May 10 at the Kelowna Community Theatre.

Tickets for the gala are now available from the city at a cost of $25 per person. To purchase tickets, please call 250-469-8800.
