Hundreds of youth accessing Foundry Kelowna services

May 22, 2018 By Leave a Comment

An innovative model of care that’s supporting Kelowna’s youth is having considerable impact. Since opening its doors in September 2017, 900 youth have visited Foundry Kelowna and for most, this is the first time they are seeking help.

“Foundry Kelowna is transforming the way youth and their families are getting help in our community,” says CMHA Kelowna Executive Director, Shelagh Turner. “Now, youth don’t have to ask where to go to get help, they just need to walk through the doors and we can provide the counselling and services they need.”

Raymond James, one of North America’s leading full-service investment dealers, is showing their heartfelt generosity for the community, having reached a fundraising goal for an integrated youth clinic twice as fast as they expected. The company originally made a two-year fundraising commitment to Foundry Kelowna for $50,000 but ended up surpassing the goal – raising $50,140 in just one year.

The money raised by Raymond James will help provide early intervention and better access to care for youth, and their families, so they can live their best lives possible.

“Our signature fundraiser Christmas in November has raised more than $194,000 for local charities during the last four years,” explains Brendan Willis, Branch Manager for Raymond James Kelowna Corporate. “This past year, Foundry Kelowna was selected as our charity of choice to receive this event’s proceeds.  We know that mental wellness affects people from all walks of life and by supporting Foundry Kelowna we are helping dramatically change the delivery of these essential services for youth and their families.”

Coast Capital: Youth Supporting Youth Mental Health

January 19, 2018 By Leave a Comment

Coast Capital and members of Foundry Kelowna’s Youth Advisory Council

Programs that foster wellness and increase resiliency in youth has had a significant boost at Foundry Kelowna. Coast Capital has awarded the centre a $20,000 Community Investment Grant for Youth.

The funding is supporting mental health programs at Foundry Kelowna with a focus on creating opportunities for social connection, peer support, skill development in group settings and building self-esteem and positive social skills – all of which are key elements of early intervention and prevention in young people.

Active youth involvement is a key priority for both organizations. Foundry Kelowna works with a Youth Advisory Committee that has been involved in determining everything from the centre’s location to identifying the types of programming that is needed; and the grant itself – dubbed For Youth, By Youth is adjudicated by members of the Coast Capital Youth Get It™ Community Councils.
