In recent weeks, news of coronavirus (COVID-19) has been at the forefront of many of our minds. For some, the news has increased anxiety and concern about personal risk. The first step in managing this type of anxiety is educating yourself. So, here we are going to talk about what the coronavirus is, signs of infection, prevention recommendations, and the current risk to Canadians.

International Women’s Day Fundraiser Raises $5,500 for Foundry Kelowna

On #InternationalWomensDay, 5 chefs, 4 winemakers and 40 guests came together to support CMHA Kelowna at the #BeBoldForChange Fundraising Dinner at Quails’ Gate. A total of $5,500 was raised for our Nutrition programs at CMHA and Foundry Kelowna! It was all about women supporting women and food making connections. A huge thank you to Aman Dosanj from The Paisley Notebook for organizing this event and the rest of the team involved in making this happen. We are so grateful for this collaborative support you have shown for us! #GetLoud

Community Agencies Partner to Support Healthy Aging

Opportunities to socialize and a sense of connection are important for mental health and healthy aging. Unfortunately, many seniors in our community struggle with isolation and loneliness, increasing their vulnerability to depression and disability. The Canadian Mental Health Association, Kelowna (CMHA Kelowna), has teamed up with Kelowna Community Resources and several other organizations in the central Okanagan to provide outreach for older adults.

“Our goal is to provide mental health education training to 100 staff members and volunteers at key agencies who will be able to match at least 60 older adults with a trained outreach volunteer,” says Alison Kyte, Wellness Programs and Education Manager at CMHA Kelowna. [Read more…]
