Mental Health First Aid Kit for Non-Professionals

September 21, 2015 By Leave a Comment

Recently, CBC covered Mental Health First Aid: “Most people understand the need for first aid and how to give first aid before getting professional help … Mental health problems are really, really common. There is a lot of stigma out there about it and there is evidence that if you nip it in the bud and get at it early, it can prevent people from getting into something much more severe.”

This is a course that CMHA Kelowna is very proud to offer! To learn more, click here, give us a call, or send us an email! Community courses are held several times per year or you can schedule a course for your own group or workplace.

Learning Self-Regulation in Class

September 21, 2015 By Leave a Comment

Self-regulation is such an important concept for people of all ages. Understanding ourselves well enough that we can make a plan to “get back to calm” can help us with our relationships, academics, work, and mental health more broadly.

Check out this great video from CBC: http://www.cbc.ca/player/News/ID/2675404183/

Ottawa to Offer All Staff Suicide Prevention Training

September 21, 2015 By Leave a Comment

“Ottawa will become the first municipality in Canada to offer suicide prevention training to every employee, something public health officials would like to see become as common as CPR training.”

This is great to see! Providing training to staff helps to create a safer workplace, but that training also has the potential to help family members and the wider community.

If you’re interested in workplace training or courses such as Mental Health First Aid, contact CMHA Kelowna at [email protected] or 250-861-3644.
